About Gaza Voices

Gaza Voices attempts to create a platform for Gazans to share their experiences and thoughts since October 2023 and bring outsiders closer to the daily circumstances they face.

It was created in response to the ongoing siege and bombardment of Gaza since October 2023. Being in contact with Gazan friends and/or relatives, we felt that most media reports don’t convey the upheaval the current situation has brought for individual biographies, life plans and relationships.

We collect testimonies of those who, as we speak, are living under horrendous and increasingly life-threatening conditions in Gaza. We also interview those who lived in Gaza when the war started but, for a variety of reasons, have managed to evacuate from Gaza since.

We don’t focus on political analysis but try to highlight the very individual perspective: Palestinians affected by the war right now talk about changed dreams, relationships, grief and the daily struggle for survival under the siege and bombardment of Gaza.

Our Approach

The aim is to show the widest possible range of Palestinian experiences from Gaza.

Therefore, it is important to be aware of the personal choices and circumstances of our conversation partners. In a war where journalists have been repeatedly targeted, many Palestinians choose to protect their identity for good reason.

This is why the conversation partner can choose the format in which their experience will be published, the choices being:

1. The Gaza Voices Podcast

2. Video extracts

3. Anonymized text transcripts.

1. ‎The Gaza Voices Podcast

The Gaza Voices podcast presents some of the English interviews in edited form and supported by additional context. The episodes are broadcast on Radio Refuge Worldwide from May 6, 2023, and are also available on Spotify.

2. Videos

Extracts of each interview will be openly accessible on this website and on our YouTube channel. As the project’s goal is to spread these stories to a broad audience, the filmed recordings have been edited into short, thematic extracts. Maps, photos and extra footage were added for additional orientation.

Unedited recordings are accessible on demand for researchers or activists, after consulting with the respective interview partner.

3. Interview transcripts

Some interview partners preferred to stay anonymous and have their conversations published as transcripts. These interviews are accessible in an edited form on the website, while the original transcript (and transcription guidelines) are available for download.
